I have thought long and hard about what I am going to say in the initial post of this {behind-the-scenes} blog for my documentary series – The Adoption Project.. Anyone who knows me, knows that it takes a long time for me to tell a story; that I often have a hard time expressing myself when speaking; that I am not eloquent. So I will try my best with these posts. Let me begin by telling you what has been on my mind for the past year.

Since last Fall I have brainstormed about my Senior Project. I knew I wanted to do something photography related, something that would build my resumé, but also something that really matters to me, my family and to my Heavenly Father.

I bounced back and forth between ideas ranging from creative projects where I restore old family photographs/negatives to projects like writing letters to everyone who matters to me and then photographing or filming their reaction reading them.

Early this summer, I was feeling really pressured to get things decided {as I often feel}. I sat myself down, said a prayer and just started thinking about what really matters to me: My family. And other families in the world – they matter to me, too. I know that the family unit matters to Heavenly Father, in fact, I know it to be a huge part in His plan of Happiness.

And so began my journey of documenting families in the adoption process- whether having placed for adoption, waiting to adopt, or post-adoption with their children. An important part of deciding this project was knowing that I wanted to record their thoughts on the significance of adoption in God’s Plan of Happiness.

To understand why I came to this idea, you have to understand the family I come from. They have played a big part in shaping who I am and what I know to be true and worthwhile in life. In my next post – I’ll introduce you to them. Thank you for following my journey!
