Recently I had the opportunity to take a road trip with some dear friends to Utah. One of our mornings there we got lucky enough to take portraits of a the most stunning girl. It was such a pleasure meeting Miss Cortney and taking photos with her. She is so sweet, charming and beautiful- I only wish I had more time to get to know her! I feel very fortunate to have taken these photos of her. The location of we chose for these portraits was near Sandy, Utah at a mountainside park.
I have been taking portraits of young ladies since the beginnings of my photography and I have to say it is the most fun I’ve ever had. The whole experience was so great and just what I imagined it’d be. We were a little curious as to how our location would look because as winter quickly creeps in, all the greenery is nearly gone. But the landscape was stunning and the colors were marvelously deep and moody.
We chose to photograph Cortney in the early morning, which worked out perfectly with the sun behind the mountain. I like photographing in the evening, but I’m learning that the morning light can be just as lovely. I adore capturing the true beauty of all young ladies and I really treasure these images of Courtney! There’s no better feeling for a photographer than when their clients are genuine, comfortable and photogenic!
These images were taken primarily with a 50 mm and 85 mm lens. I kept the aperture small for the portraits that included full body and lots of background and it was a little wider for the more close-up photos. The first image in this post was taken with a speedlight and diffuser.
In post-production I slightly adjusted the exposure, color balance, tone curve, contrast, vibrance, sharpness shadows and highlights. I did slight editing on the skin of our model as well. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to come to this inspiring place and meet this beautiful soul! Enjoy these photographs.
